What I wore: ready for fall

IT’S ALMOST SEPTEMBER and I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’m a big fan of autumn for several reasons:

  1. HALLOWEEN (I love it; costumes are my jam)
  2. hot chocolate (of the vegan variety because allergies)
  3. rainy, cool weather (this is honestly gross weather right now, call me when September ends)
  4. anniversary time and husby’s birthday
  5. FALL FASHION (refer back to #3)

I love clothes so much, and I know that right now ‘capsule wardrobes’ are very “in.” I also know that never in my life would I be a successful capsule-wardrobe-wearer even if pigs started flying (like, our closet in our new house will be almost 60 sqft.; we are not small-closet people). I shop ethically as much as I can by supporting small shops and thrifting; then I recycle my clothes by donating it back to the thrift store I purchased it from (instead of remembering important things, my hypothalamus is basically a wardrobe archive). This makes me feel slightly less guilty about my gigantic wardrobe (I have over 40 pairs of shoes, just to give you a little insight).

Even though I’m not one to partake in minimalist wardrobes, I can definitely offer up some superb fall staples and tips for dressin’ that mom bod. Full disclosure: I always buy white, and I always regret buying white because I’m such a messy eater and overall klutzy human being. Will I stop buying white clothes? Nope. You’re gonna see a lot of white, even after Labour Day. C’est la vie.

So, anyway, back to the outfit: I’m a big fan of skinny trousers and chunky knit sweaters, so it’s v likely you’ll be seeing me in some combination of these pieces (and similar ones in different colours) for most of the season.

In case you’re wondering what that face is for: William was yelling and I was simultaneously concerned (because he was yelling) and amused (because I didn’t have to deal w the situation)

Clearly need to work on my poses soz friends

  • Hat: purchased from Plato’s Closet (for $8!!!)
  • Sunglasses: Cote d’Azur Cat Eye Polarized Sunglasses in Brown gifted by Wildwood Eyewear (you can also find them on Amazon here)
  • Necklaces: layered double-sided rose gold custom bars by Mint & Birch
  • Sweater: ByBlish lattice sleeve sweater in a size small (currently the site is under construction but you can follow along on their IG here)
  • Pants: H&M high-waisted skinny denim trouser in a size 12
  • Booties: Old Navy cognac ankle boots in a size 7 from last season
  • Bag: Kate Spade Grand Street Hayden from last season (a similar one can be found here)

I love high-waisted pants because they go with any type of top (crop tops, tunics, sweaters, tanks, tees, whatever) and any type of shoes (sneakers, booties, knee-high boots, sandals — you get it). AND they keep my mum-tum in place (so. much. extra. skin?!), so that’s always a bonus. They’re also comfy as heck, which is always nice when you’re running around frantically for too many hours in the day getting what feels like nothing done (hopefully not just me?). I am a big fan of rolling the ankles, which I didn’t do here, so you’ll just have to believe me.

Chunky knits are great for fall, because they are just so cozy! I LOVE sweaters so much, and this one is no exception. It’s a nice length (p sure if my boobs were a normal size it would hit my hips, but ya can’t win ’em all) and the lattice sleeve detail makes it a unique piece. It’s a warm, thick sweater, too; it’s definitely going to be a wardrobe fave this fall/winter season!

If I had to only wear one type of shoe forever, it would probably be ankle boots. Or sneakers. Can I pick two? But for real, I love booties soooo much; these are one of five pairs I own (I’m seriously not a minimalist-closet gal), and I shamelessly wear them all year. Last year I wore a pair to one of my bff’s bachelorette parties in the middle of July WHILE I was pregnant. Ankle boots > comfortable temperature, clearly.

I also wear sunglasses all year long because: a) I have ridiculously sensitive eyes (like I need sunnies in overcast weather) that are even MORE sensitive to light because of the magnifying glasses I need to wear to be able to see (my prescription is -9.00 with an astigmatism in both eyes); b) the sun exists and isn’t v good for eyesight; and, c) sunglasses are cute and only serve to add to an outfit. These ones are sustainable, eco-friendly, polarized, and affordable goodness made by Wildwood Eyewear! They’re a super cute cat-eye with a subtle tortoiseshell frame. I LOVE them (they were gifted to me, and they picked them out for me; I am so, so impressed!)

I never used to wear hats because I didn’t think they suited my face, but now I don’t actually care if they suit my face, because they enhance my outfit (in my clearly v humble and profesh opinion) and help me avoid heat nausea (which I get regularly if it’s warmer than 24 degrees outside and sunny). Since I wear a lot of figurative hats, I figured wearing a literal hat would be kind of cool. So, here we are.
