Product Review: Discover Lifestyle Fraser Valley Subscription Box

Full Disclosure: I was given this sampler box in order to review and photograph the products. All opinions, writings, and experiences written here are my own. Honesty is my only policy (unless my husband asks if I’ve watched Netflix without him, then the answer is always “no”).

I happened upon — discovered, if you will (jk) — Discover Lifestyle FV (@discoverfv) on the good ol’ ‘gram, and I was positively intrigued. I love subscription boxes (what’s better than a discounted SURPRISE delivered to your door? literally nothing), and I love shopping local, so coming across a local subscription box was particularly incredible (and exciting)! Christina, the Boss Babe/Mom Extraordinaire behind Discover, is in the beginning stages of her business, and it’s already AMAZING, so I can only imagine how much more fantastic it will get!

Christina sent me a fall sampler box in order to do a product review, which means you get a sneak peek into a tester box!

Firstly, a couple details about the boxes:

  • The subscription is seasonal, so you get 4 boxes per year, and they will be shipped out at the beginning of January, April, July, and October
  • The retail value of each box is $120/box
  • The subscription cost of each box is $89.95 (saving $30 per box!); alternatively, you can pay for the entire year upfront with an annual subscription option for $319.80, which is a 10% discount compared to the monthly payment option ($79.95/box!)
  • There’s a limited edition holiday box that is a perfect gift option for someone you love (or for yourself, I’m not judging; treat yourself! You deserve it). The retail value is $160, but it is only $119.95 — $40 in savings! Also, there are only 25 of them being made, so get them while you can!
  • The brands behind the products I’m reviewing here will be making an appearance again throughout the year, so if you love what you’re seeing, you definitely will love the subscription!

And now, for the goodies inside the box!

I opened the box to be greeted by my favourite smell: fresh lavender from Chilliwack-based florist Aster and Calyx.

This box has a TON more goodies: a package of Harvest Tea from New Moon Tea Co., a gorgeous knit pom beanie from Stitches & Things, a Whistler Peaks bracelet from North Pacific Co., the sweetest ever paper clip from Knot Your Granny’s Stitches, a Vanilla Mint scented soy candle from The 6th Scent Candle, a Fig & Flora roll-on perfume from True Products, earrings from Sweet Caroline Creative, and a root beer-scented (YUM) lip balm and sweet pink candy GRL PWR bath fizzer from Dual Peaks Soap Co.

New Moon Tea Co.’s Harvest Tea

I love a nice cuppa in the fall; growing up, I’d have tea every night before bed (Earl Grey or Orange Pekoe), but now I can’t have caffeine at night, and during the day, coffee tends to be my drink of choice. This Harvest Tea is the perfect blend to drink before falling asleep, though! It’s an herbal tea, so no caffeine, and it’s got chamomile in it, which is such a soothing bedtime flower.

I love the addition of jewelry! The bracelet is a great size, and it stretches, so it’ll fit most wrists. It’s also my favourite colours (black and white) so I’m definitely partial to it! North Pacific Co.’s inspiration for their pieces are places that remind them of home (BC); this bracelet’s marble-white stone and black accent definitely allude to Whistler’s snowy peaks!

I’m a sucker for florals, and these earrings are no exception! They are a stud, which I love because motherhood just doesn’t mix with dangling earrings most of the time, and they’re nickel- and lead-free! Fellow allergy-prone-peeps unite! I can wear these without getting an allergic reaction; that’s basically unheard of for me. These can really be worn with anything because they’re so small and subtle; I love them!

Strings & Things pom beanie and Dual Peaks Soap Co. root beer lip balm

I wear a lot of hats (figuratively and literally), and I’m a sucker for toques, or beanies, as Canada’s pants calls them. The big poms are so fluffy and cute (I attempted to make one of these and it didn’t turn out very well, so thank goodness for knitters who are better than I), and the hat is SO SOFT and not at all scratchy. It’s just the right amount of cozy, too!

Lip balm is a necessity all year long, but ESPECIALLY in winter. I have eczema on my face (it’s as unpleasant as it sounds), so I need to wear lip balm constantly, but I also have to be really careful about what’s in the balms because of my allergies. It’s rare that I can find a lip balm that doesn’t contain aloe vera (what an allergy to have) or coconut (yeah, I know, right?), but these are made with cocoa butter and vitamin E. So, basically, I’m stocking up like nobody’s business. Also their GRL PWR line makes my inner feminist SCREAM with joy. Brb, gonna go buy one of everything.

The 6th Scent Candle Vanilla Mint candle, Aster & Calyx lavender, and New Moon Tea Co. Harvest Tea

OK, so this candle. IT SMELLS SO GOOD. Obviously I’m not going to light it on my bed — we live in a log house, that would be disastrous — but I wanted to add it into this cozy photo because it’s just so dang cute in its little tin, and also it smells divine! I find that vanilla in candles can often be overwhelmingly artificial smelling, but not this one! The amount of mint is perfectly balanced, too; it doesn’t have an overt mint smell. Also, the candles are made of soy wax instead of paraffin or beeswax; soy wax doesn’t hold as much fragrance, which is what prevents the scent being overwhelming, and soy wax is more environmentally-friendly than other types of wax (yay!). This particular candle has a wood wick, which makes a crackle sound as it burns. IT’S LIKE A LITTLE PORTABLE FIREPLACE.

Stitches & Things pom beanie

I love this hat so here it is again, look at how cute and soft it is! I have a big head, so it definitely has a lot of stretch, but the yarn is clearly a great quality, because once I took it off, there was no way of knowing it had been worn at all. It keeps its shape so well!

The 6th Scent Candle Vanilla Mint candle, True Products Fig & Flora perfume, and Dual Peaks Soap Co. GRL POWER sweet pink candy bath fizzer

My bathroom isn’t really IG-worthy, so let’s just pretend that this is a cute stack of towels in a Pinterest-designed bathroom. Got it? OK! It’s self-care September, and what better way to take care of yourself than with a FIZZY bath? How about a fizzy GRL PWR bath with a sweet (but not too sweet) candy aroma, and a candle glowing beside you with the tiny crackle of a wood wick; the vanilla mint scent will leave your bathroom smelling fresh for hours! For afterwards, a delicate and beautiful jojoba-based perfume to roll on your wrists, neck, etc. Yeah, that sounds like some solid self-care. Also, add a good book or some tunes — 10/10 recommend.

The Fig & Flora perfume has an actual dried flower inside! It looks absolutely beautiful, especially with the wood lid. The mix of fig, coconut milk, caramelized brown sugar, and jojoba is a surprising one, but it blends absolutely perfectly together.

Knot Your Granny’s Stitches white heart paper clip

(Disclaimer: I did not write this; my good friend Photoshop helped me out here)

I love how much character a paper clip can have with the addition of a crocheted heart! I’m a sucker for cute stationery, so I was all over this little number. Bonus: it’s easy to find and it’s super soft!
