Fresh Prep Vancouver

I honestly cannot believe I haven’t written about Fresh Prep, because it is a LIFESAVER.

I’m so bad at making food — like, the worst; I can’t cook or bake. It’s a travesty. I’m good at following directions, and I’m super particular (aka Type A), so I pay attention to all of the steps and ensure I’m doing it correctly, etc., and then whatever I’m making implodes, or burns, or catches fire (OK, that was only twice). I still mess up boxed macaroni on the reg. Also, my face is hot with embarrassment.

A L S O, when I try to make food, I don’t cook meat (I don’t eat seafood or pork, and I’m allergic to beef, so basically I don’t cook the only meat I eat: chicken) — except eggs, for those that count eggs as meat — so if Trav wants meat with dinner, he makes dinner. Also, if we want edible dinner, he cooks dinner. In short: Travis is the cook in our house. He’s also the gardener (I don’t have a green thumb, either) so we get to eat fresh garden fruits and veggies! We complement each other nicely, since I am very good at eating food. Eating is one of my talents. We’ll pretend I have many talents.

Travis works 40 hours a week, plus 2-3-ish hours of commuting, so he’s out of the house for at least 50 hours a week. I’m on maternity leave right now (OK actually I just got a new job because my brain hates me unless I have a job and/or classes #anxietylife), but last year I was working anywhere from 12-20 hours a week and taking 3-4 classes a semester, which meant that Travis and I barely saw each other. Usually Travis would get home by 4:15, and I would be back from work and school anytime between 7 pm and 10 pm. And as much as Travis loves to make food and experiment in the kitchen, he doesn’t love it after working a physically intense job while chasing after a 3 year old. So what with our hectic schedules, we ended up eating out a lot last year. What made it worse was that we were buying groceries every week and then not eating them; we’d be too tired to cook and end up ordering takeout or picking something up. We wasted so much money on buying food we didn’t eat, and then buying more food that we did eat, that we figured we’d give Fresh Prep a shot and only spend what was necessary.

We signed up for Fresh Prep using a code, and they give every user a code to share. Here’s mine; if you want to sign up to even just try it, you can get three free plates with the link, and we get one free plate, too! What a symbiotic relationship we can have!

There are tons of great dishes to choose from; you get to pick what you want to order (up to four meals each week), and there’s a great variety of options for all diets! One of our favourites is the destructured sushi bowl – Travis’ favourite food is sushi, but I don’t like nori, so when we have the sushi bowl, he just eats my share of nori. The meals are portioned per person, but we’ve always had enough food for Travis, William, and me to have dinner, plus leftovers (never leftover naan, tho).

All of the meals also take a maximum of 30 minutes to make, so it’s perfect for a busy family like ours! Fresh Prep makes evenings a lot less hectic, and a lot more healthy!

Everything we’ve tried is DELICIOUS, and all of the packaging is also recyclable!! Even if your city doesn’t accept the packaging, you can just rinse the food off of everything and put it back in the bag to return to Fresh Prep. It’s a win for the environment, and a win for bellies everywhere.

Happy eating!
