We love to visit farms, and hope to eventually — once our subdivision goes through and our house is built — have our own hobby farm. In the meantime, checking out local farms is always berry (hehe) fun! In late June, William, Isla, and I went with some friends to Duft & Co. Bakehouse (10/10 recommend), Krause Berry Farms, and Maan Farms all in one day. Exhaustive would be an understatement, but it was so much fun… until we had to leave Maan farms for my therapy appointment and William ran away from me, and I couldn’t catch him for ages, and then I was late. Parenting, tho.

We’ve never been to Krause before, and we were pleasantly surprised! There’s a huge store (which my friend Martina wisely suggested I shouldn’t enter; it’s nice to have friends who know your shopping tendencies), a playground, a few places to sit down and have a bite, and, of course, the berry fields!

When we went, the strawberries were almost done for the season, but we still managed to get a decent haul. I brought Isla in the stroller (definitely would suggest babywearing smaller bubs if you’re in the mood for strawberry picking), which wouldn’t fit in between the rows of strawberries, so I stayed near the edge to pick strawberries (and take photos). William had a blast picking strawberries further in, though, and managed to pick a fair number of juicy, delicious strawberries (with some help from Tina and Alise)!

 

By the time we got to the raspberry picking, William was kind of over it. He ran up and down the row with sticks (lol) while us adults picked raspberries. They assigned us to a row and said that we could go on either side of the same bushes, but that designation was weird to do in a group, so we just stuck to one side. Also, we may have snagged some berries from the adjacent row. Possibly.

Both the strawberries and raspberries can go in the same basket ($1 per basket) because they cost the same amount ($2.50/lb), which was berry convenient. They also sell berries inside their store if you don’t want to pick them yourself! The play area is right by the U-Pick stand, so William could play while I paid for the berry haul; this, too, was berry convenient (OK, I’ll stop).

We thought/hoped there would be animals (goats, mainly) at the farm, so we were disappointed that that wasn’t the case (which is why we went to Maan Farms, too; we needed to get our Goat Fix), but, in hindsight, we could’ve checked the website, which is strictly berry-filled.

Despite the lack of four-legged friends, Krause was berry fun (OK, now I’ll stop) for itty bitty beans and adults alike! I need to go back and try their waffles; is there anything else I should do or try next time I go?
