Ahhh, Whistle & Flute, where do I begin?

• Local shop? Check.
• Gender neutral? Check.
• Ethically made? Check.
• Seasonal prints? Check.
• Cute as heck designs? Check.
• Clothes for babies, kids, and adults? Check, check, and check!

I first came across Whistle & Flute in the year 2016 (I think) on Instagram (I’m pretty sure), and I loved the gender neutral, mostly-monochrome clothing designs. I also love that their clothes are ethically and locally made, and that they have matching adult clothes! They’ve also recently introduced a baby line, including sleepers with DOUBLE ZIPPERS, so I’ll probably be ordering one of those for Isla soon. They only go up to XL in adult clothes, so if you’re an XXL, or prefer a roomier fit, this brand unfortunately won’t work for you!

The first W&F tee I bought William was their Alphabet shirt – I love it SO MUCH. Also, I bought it again once he outgrew the first one; I’m not exaggerating when I say I love it. We’re an alphabet-loving fam over here. (Anything to do with language = sign me up!) William is relatively tall, so I ordered him a 2T a few months before he turned two. W&F shirts are a great length, and even long-lasting on my 95th percentile bean! He wore the 2T for about a year, if not longer – that’s a parenting win – and it’s still in good condition for Isla to wear (not even one hole!)

 

I always size up if I can for maximum wear, so his current W&F collection is mostly size 5/6, including the Alphabet shirt pictured above; it’s a bit long, but it’ll fit for ages, and eventually Isla will be able to wear this one, too! W&F kids’ stuff definitely runs true to size, but because they’re not gendered (honestly why in fresh hell do kids’ clothes need to be tapered? THEY DON’T) they’re not too fitted, and definitely a good length!

William is a big fan of W&F, too, and, since he picks out most of his clothes, he asked for the Flamingo Tank (kiddo loves flamingos!) and the Kawaii All Over Hooded Romper. The romper was sold out for ages in a 5/6, but I FINALLY managed to scoop one last month, and William loves to wear it, even when it’s arguably too warm (like 18 degrees and sunny – see below). It’s currently too chilly for tanks, though, so he hasn’t worn that one yet – stay tuned, because he’ll probably be wearing it for 90% of July and August.

Will says his favourite print on his romper in the “ice cream,” which is coincidentally on another top. He also loves to “read” his Je t’aime hat and sweatshirt: “Je t’aime! It means ‘I love you.'” I love that they have matching clothes for kids and parents, because I’m a sucker for matching clothes, but they’re still cute and acceptable for wearing when your kid isn’t around; for example, I wore my Je t’aime sweatshirt to a final exam because I’m a Cool Mom.

In terms of fit for adult clothes, I’d say it’s relatively true to size, though on the smaller size. My Je t’aime sweatshirt is a small, which I figured was a safe bet because it’s unisex, but it’s a little tight on my chest. That being said, if you have normal-sized boobs, it will probably fit you. Also, if you’re not two sizes bigger than normal because you had a baby approx. six months ago, then it will probably also fit you. It is a slimmer fit, so if you want a baggy sweatshirt, size up!

 

We haven’t come across a W&F piece that we haven’t loved – the Je t’aime hat is easily one of William’s (and my) favourite wardrobe staples, though!
